Nintendo has recently launched a significant update, version 3.0.0, for its popular game, Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This comprehensive update brings a variety of enhancements and new functionalities to both the original Nintendo Switch and the newer Switch 2 platforms, aiming to refine the player experience and introduce fresh ways to enjoy island life. The patch notes, released by Nintendo, detail an array of changes that promise to make daily tasks more efficient and engaging for players worldwide.

Detailed Improvements in the Latest Animal Crossing Update

The highly anticipated 3.0.0 update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, released on January 14, 2026, introduces a suite of general improvements applicable to both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. A notable addition is the ability to craft up to ten items simultaneously, provided sufficient materials are on hand, significantly streamlining the crafting process. Furthermore, players can now utilize items directly from their home storage for DIY projects, eliminating the need to transfer them to inventory. The DIY Recipes app has been enhanced to include a dedicated page for tracking hotel DIY requests and tasks from Tom Nook, helping players stay organized as they progress through their island adventures.

For those who enjoy collecting, items obtained through linking with Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp are now consistently available for order via Nook Shopping. Similarly, Super Mario Bros. themed items can be purchased without the prerequisite of linking a Nintendo Account. Movement has also seen a subtle but welcome tweak: while exploring outdoors, holding the L button allows players to move while maintaining a fixed direction. Isabelle, the beloved Resident Services secretary, now offers suggested melodies for the island tune, including the original, and allows players to revert the island flag to its initial design. Convenience extends to purchasing customization kits, with Nook's Cranny now offering them in packs of up to 50. Several items, such as snowflakes, can now be easily sold using the drop-off box. Pascal, the philosophical otter, will now reward players with a pearl every time they give him a scallop. Leif, the sloth who loves flora, will now remove weeds when there are 30 or more on the island, either at Harv's Island or during his visits, and the fee for this service has been reduced. New tips have been integrated into the Island Life 101 app, and additional Nook Miles tasks have been added to complement the new features. Minor adjustments have also been made to the order of collaboration items in photo studios and hotel decorating catalogs, alongside other general improvements to overall gameplay.

The Nintendo Switch 2 specifically benefits from a fix addressing an issue where the Nook Shopping startup sound on smartphones would not play correctly. Additionally, the NookLink feature within the Nintendo Switch App has received updates, including new articles in the Island Newspaper and support for all new items introduced in version 3.0.0 in the Catalog. It is important to note that a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership and a compatible smart device with the Nintendo Switch App are required to access these NookLink services.

This update represents Nintendo's ongoing commitment to enhancing the Animal Crossing: New Horizons experience. The focus on quality-of-life improvements, such as batch crafting and direct storage access, demonstrates an understanding of player feedback and a desire to make the game more fluid and enjoyable. These changes are poised to offer a more streamlined and delightful journey for both long-time residents and new inhabitants of their virtual islands, solidifying the game's position as a comforting and engaging escape. Players are encouraged to update their game and explore all the new possibilities this patch brings to their island paradise.
