In a significant industry development, Dandurand, a prominent Canadian wine firm, in collaboration with French spirits conglomerate La Martiniquaise-Bardinet, has successfully completed the acquisition of the Lamb's rum brand from Corby Spirit and Wine. This strategic transaction, valued at C$39.2 million (approximately US$28 million), involves the transfer of the brand's inventory and intellectual property, signaling a focused shift in business priorities for the involved parties. The deal was executed through Maison des Futailles, primarily owned by Dandurand, and Glen Turner Company, a division of La Martiniquaise-Bardinet and subsidiary of Cofepp.

Details of the Lamb's Rum Acquisition Unveiled

The joint acquisition effectively divides the market rights for the renowned Lamb's rum label. Dandurand will now oversee its distribution and development in North America, while La Martiniquaise-Bardinet, via its parent company Cofepp, will manage its presence in international markets. This agreement, formalized on Thursday, August 6, 2026, marks a pivotal moment for all entities. Corby Spirit and Wine, majority-owned by Pernod Ricard, declared that this divestment aligns with its core strategy to intensify efforts on high-potential growth sectors, including ready-to-drink products and premium spirits. Furthermore, the sale is expected to free up substantial capital, enabling investments in opportunities promising higher returns and contributing to a more streamlined and efficient portfolio for the Canada-listed beverage producer and distributor. Corby's existing brand portfolio includes well-known names such as J.P. Wiser's, Polar Ice, and Cottage Springs, and it also distributes international brands like Absolut, Chivas Regal, and Jameson in Canada through partnerships with Pernod Ricard.

Florence Tresarrieu, who took the helm as Corby's CEO in January, emphasized that this divestiture empowers the company to channel resources towards priority categories, reinforce its financial standing, and fuel investments in brands and innovations crucial for future expansion. Following the completion of the sale, Corby and its associated companies will provide transitional support for the brand's production and distribution to the new owners. The transaction has received unanimous approval from Corby's board of directors. Christophe Pichambert, International Director of La Martiniquaise-Bardinet, expressed enthusiasm for the acquisition, noting that Lamb's is a well-established brand in the UK market that perfectly complements their existing portfolio and strategic objectives. This move follows La Martiniquaise-Bardinet's recent acquisitions, including the Cacique Venezuelan rum brand from Diageo in January of the previous year, a majority stake in UK gin producer Warner's Distillery in July last year, and a 40% stake in Spanish liqueur company Street Liquors this past May, underscoring their aggressive expansion strategy in the global spirits market.
