In a notable development for Los Angeles' cinematic landscape, actress Kristen Stewart has voiced her enthusiasm regarding the upcoming revival of the Cinerama Dome. This iconic Hollywood movie house, a beloved landmark, is slated for reopening in early 2028, following its closure in 2020. Sony's announcement confirmed plans for its restoration, with the Alamo Drafthouse, also a Sony affiliate, taking over operations for both the Dome and the adjacent former ArcLight Theater Hollywood.

Stewart, who recently ventured into theater ownership herself by acquiring the 100-year-old Highland Theatre in Highland Park, offered her perspective on the Cinerama Dome's return. At the premiere of her new film, The Wrong Girls, she commented on the lengthy process, acknowledging Sony's involvement with a mix of gratitude and a touch of playful caution, stating, "It took forever! It took Sony to do it. I hope they don't mess it up!" before quickly adding, "No, they won't. I'm so grateful." Meanwhile, discussions surrounding the Dome's reopening have touched upon potential changes, particularly concerning Alamo Drafthouse's mobile ordering system. However, Sony has reassured the public that the Dome itself will retain its traditional concession experience, focusing on preserving its distinctive aesthetic, immersive large-format curved screen, and the charm that has endeared it to generations of moviegoers.

Stewart's personal commitment to preserving movie culture is evident in her own restoration project for the Highland Theatre. She shared with Architectural Digest that purchasing the Highland Theatre felt like a fated endeavor, igniting a passionate pursuit to revitalize the venue. Her vision for the Highland Theatre extends beyond mere preservation; it aims to establish a new model for community engagement, moving away from a purely commercial approach. She envisions it as a space that redefines movie culture, making it accessible and meaningful for the community, rather than solely catering to what she described as "corporate nonsense."

The return of such cherished cinematic venues as the Cinerama Dome, alongside the dedicated efforts of figures like Kristen Stewart to revive historic theaters, underscores a collective commitment to preserving and enhancing the communal movie-going experience. These initiatives symbolize a broader aspiration to foster cultural spaces that are both accessible and enriching, ensuring that the magic of cinema continues to inspire and unite communities for years to come. By prioritizing authenticity and community, these endeavors offer a beacon of hope for the future of film exhibition, emphasizing shared experiences over commercial interests and promoting a vibrant, inclusive environment for all.
