Celebrating a significant milestone, the online fantasy game RuneScape is set to roll out a series of substantial updates throughout 2026, marking its quarter-century anniversary. The centerpiece of these celebrations for the primary RuneScape game, often referred to as RS3, is an ambitious roadmap that promises the most extensive geographical expansion the game has ever seen, named "Havenhythe." This comprehensive plan was revealed in the "RuneScape Ahead" video, following a major community decision to eliminate the "Treasure Hunter" system, a change supported by nearly 125,000 player votes.

The initial phase of the Havenhythe expansion is scheduled for release in the spring, introducing two new narrative quests, a pair of early-game adversaries, and two mini-quests, concurrently elevating the Hunter skill's level cap to 110. While specifics for the second phase, slated for next winter, are still emerging, it will notably feature a formidable end-game boss: the Ghrazi Blood Knights. Beyond these major releases, continuous additions to Havenhythe are planned throughout the year, including further story-driven content and a new archaeological dig site. These developments are integral to a broader initiative termed the "road to restoration," focused on re-establishing the core values and integrity of RuneScape. This includes a complete overhaul of the user interface, significant visual upgrades across established zones like Misthalin and Asgarnia, and a modernization of the combat mechanics to enhance overall gameplay.

Throughout the year, players can anticipate a phased revamp of their in-game avatars, starting in April with updates to character models, animations, hairstyles, and apparel. Subsequently, player-owned residences will receive much-needed attention, with the Construction skill's maximum level increasing to 120 and the introduction of a new crafting system. This system will enable players to create unique furniture pieces inspired by their in-game achievements, adventures, and triumphs. Additionally, the calendar will be dotted with new seasonal festivities, such as Blooming Burrow, Harvest Hollow, and the festive Christmas Village. The return of "Leagues II" promises fresh, potent relics, new objectives, and rewards, all meticulously refined based on community feedback. Capping off the year, the annual RuneScape convention, RuneFest, is making a grand return on October 3-4 at the NEC in Birmingham, United Kingdom, expecting to host 6,000 attendees, a significant increase from the previous year's capacity.

This extensive roadmap not only celebrates a quarter-century of gaming but also demonstrates a profound commitment to player feedback and the continuous evolution of the game. By blending nostalgic elements with innovative updates, RuneScape is poised to embark on a renewed journey, offering both long-time enthusiasts and new adventurers a revitalized world to explore and enjoy.
