Todrick Hall's acclaimed musical, "Midnight," is poised to captivate New York audiences with its North American premiere. This production, which has already enjoyed sold-out runs in London, promises a rich tapestry of musical styles and a compelling narrative that delves into the complexities of human relationships against a historical backdrop.

Musical 'Midnight' Casts Its Spell on New York Stage

The highly anticipated musical "Midnight," conceived and helmed by the multi-taltalented Todrick Hall, is slated to commence its off-Broadway run at the esteemed Daryl Roth Theatre this autumn. Following its prior successes across the Atlantic, the show has now unveiled its full roster of performers and its dedicated creative team, sparking considerable excitement within the theater community.

A distinguished ensemble will join Hall on stage, featuring both established and emerging talents. Among the principal cast members are Jeremy Beloate and Dwayne Clark, both recognized for their appearances on "The Voice" and "Shucked" respectively, and Kennedy Caughell from "Hell's Kitchen." Tony Award nominee Sidney DuPont, celebrated for his role in "Paradise Square," brings his theatrical prowess, alongside Ayana George of "MJ The Musical." Further enriching the cast are Autumn Hurlbert ("Tammy Faye"), Kolbi Jordan ("American Idol"), Sarah Lynn Marion ("Ordinary Days"), Ciaran McCarthy ("Kinky Boots"), and Charlotte Odusanya ("The Wiz"). The broader ensemble includes talents such as Gregory Carl Banks Jr., Kyla Bartholomeusz, Keely Beirne, Zachary Bigelow, Brandon Burks, Jaylon C. Crump, Abbey Friedmann, Ndaya Dream Hoskins, Omar Madden, Brayden James Newby, JJ Niemann, Barnaby Reiter, Aveena Sawyer, Nissi Shalome, Bronwyn Tarboton, Jenni Thomasson, Matthew Varvar, and Emily Yates.

Set against the vibrant and intricate social landscape of the 19th-century American South, "Midnight" unfolds as a wholly sung-through production. Its innovative score masterfully interweaves diverse musical genres, including gospel, rhythm and blues, pop, rock, folk, opera, and traditional musical theatre elements. The narrative intricately explores the lives of twelve characters, six Black and six white, whose intersecting relationships challenge the societal norms and preconceived notions of their era. Hall not only penned the show's script but also took on the roles of director and choreographer, ensuring a cohesive artistic vision.

The creative team supporting Hall's vision is equally impressive. Laurence Stannard serves as Music Supervisor, Arranger, and Co-Orchestrator, collaborating with Mark Crossland on original orchestrations. Morgan Large is responsible for the captivating set design, while Beck Jones curates the costumes. Jake DeGroot handles the lighting, Lawrence Schober designs the sound, and Charles G. LaPointe oversees wig and hair design. Sujotta Pace and Stephen Kopel are the casting directors who assembled this remarkable cast. McBee is the production stage manager, with production management provided by Parish Productions LLC/Lauren Parrish, and general management by ShowTown Theatricals.

The production's limited engagement is scheduled to commence with preview performances on September 12, with the official opening night slated for September 27. Audiences will have the opportunity to experience this unique musical journey through November 8, promising a memorable theatrical event in the heart of New York.

Todrick Hall initially gained public recognition through his appearances on "American Idol" and subsequently cultivated a significant following through his engaging YouTube content. His career expanded further into the theatrical realm, where he became a resident choreographer and judge on "RuPaul's Drag Race," in addition to performing in notable Broadway productions such as "Waitress," "Kinky Boots," and "Chicago."

This production of "Midnight" offers a compelling exploration of human connections and societal structures, presented through a unique musical fusion. Its narrative depth and diverse cast, combined with Hall's multifaceted creative leadership, promise an engaging and thought-provoking theatrical experience. The show's ability to blend different musical traditions to tell a powerful story of interconnected lives in a historically significant setting is a testament to its artistic ambition and potential impact on audiences.
