Naomi Bulochnikov-Paul, a prominent communications executive at Disney Entertainment Television, recently shared her deeply personal journey with multiple sclerosis (MS) while accepting the prestigious Medal of Hope at the annual Race to Erase MS Gala. Her courageous narrative highlighted the transformative power of embracing one's story and the profound impact of professional and personal support networks.

Disney Executive's Inspiring Battle Against MS Honored at Star-Studded Gala

On the evening of June 5th, at the elegant Fairmont Century Plaza, Naomi Bulochnikov-Paul, Executive Vice President of Communications for Disney Entertainment Television, was bestowed with the esteemed Medal of Hope during the 33rd annual Race to Erase MS Gala. This accolade recognized her unwavering resilience and candidness in confronting multiple sclerosis.

During her moving acceptance speech, Bulochnikov-Paul openly admitted her initial apprehension about sharing her condition publicly. She grappled with fears of professional repercussions and concerns about her family's well-being. However, ultimately, she resolved to embrace her narrative, declaring, "I wasn’t going to let MS define me. I’ve spent my entire career in communication, I know how to own a narrative, and I sure as hell was going to own mine." Her powerful words resonated deeply with the audience, reinforcing the notion of choosing empowerment over fear.

A significant highlight of her address was the heartfelt acknowledgment of the steadfast support she received from her colleagues at Disney, particularly Dana Walden, President and Chief Creative Officer of Disney Entertainment Television. Bulochnikov-Paul recounted a poignant moment when Walden accompanied her to her initial doctor's appointment, demonstrating profound empathy and commitment. Walden's encouraging words, "MS doesn’t know what’s coming for it," became a guiding principle for Bulochnikov-Paul, fostering a sense of normalcy and determination to continue excelling in her demanding role. She also extended her gratitude to Debra O'Connell, Chairman of Disney Entertainment Television, for her constant encouragement, and her family, for their unwavering love.

The star-studded gala successfully raised over $1.8 million, funds crucial for supporting Race to Erase MS and its Center Without Walls program. This initiative fosters collaboration among leading MS research centers, accelerating efforts to treat and ultimately find a cure for multiple sclerosis. The evening, hosted by Jesse Palmer, also featured captivating performances by artists such as Ty Dolla $ign, Rachel Platten, Richie Sambora, and Dancing With the Stars professionals Alan Bersten and Emma Slater, alongside a fashion showcase by L’AGENCE.

This event serves as a powerful reminder that even in the face of daunting health challenges, the human spirit can triumph through courage, community support, and an unwavering commitment to self-determination. Bulochnikov-Paul's story underscores the importance of fostering inclusive and supportive workplaces, where individuals feel empowered to share their experiences and thrive despite adversity.
